Maybe God wishes to teach me a thousand new things, move me from being in a thousand different directions to just ONE, and show me a thousand reasons to BLESS his name. Maybe that is why He moved me 1,000 miles away.

My one and only political post

Ads, debates, discussions, specualtions, polls, retoric, promises. I simply will post one quote.

"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." -- John Quincy Adams"

Yes, that is a nice sentiment, but one also has to weigh the cost of casting such a vote and decide if the cost is worth it. There are times when the consequences are too great.

This is such a time my friend.

McCain voted for the bail out, even with all that pork added.
I thought he was against pork and earmarks.
If he would have voted against it, I would have been impressed with him.
Even so, I'm not sure who I'm voting for yet, but I will vote for candidate who agrees with me on the principles that I can't move from -- which aren't really that many. I've thought, read, prayed for over 8 years about my obligations regarding voting.
Two reasons why I do not have any regret about my political ideas:
1. I don't want to cast a vote out of fear.
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.
"For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit." -- Jeremiah 17:7-8

2. I do not want to apply situational ethics when voting, i.e. vote for the lesser of two evils, as they say. Studying American history again (actually enjoying it this time) 4-5 years ago was enlightening as to how far our government has gone astray from the constitution and the founder's principles for our country. It also was very interesting to read more of the revolutionaries, whey they wanted to break free from England and so forth. Quite a story, and shameful that in a couple hundred years things are where they are at now. If citizens believe that all votes are wasted unless they fall within the two party system -- even if the direction both of them want to lead this country is principally flawed, then we are not free. We are bullied and forced to walk lock and step with those parties.

It isn't out of sentiment I will vote, but principle which is much higher than sentiment. The cost is too great, I think, for voters who believe that a candidate will lead the country into a worse state for the next generation and still vote for them.

We all have the right to vote our concious, whether republican, democrat, independent, green, constitutional, or what have you.

So, we disagree on that, and that is okay with me, but be assured I don't take voting lightly, and try to see the whole picture as much as I can but then I must leave the rest in God's hands, where it all resides anyway....

Hey, just found this article! He used my quote :)
Perhaps a bitmore articulate (and without spelling errors)on the subject...
"I have been asked after my last letter (“Scriptures must guide us during coming presidential election, Sept. 9 Times-News), “Then who do we vote for?”

It is time to examine what we vote for and how we vote. Our country was founded on the ideal of political freedom but we have lost the ideals once held in our nation. John Quincy Adams said, “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost”

Citizens today hardly ever vote on principle, we vote for the lesser of two evils...."

wow....

I was just stating an opinion on a topic that you brought up. Never accused you of taking voting lightly or anything of the sort.

Oh, I'm just conversing back. When you said that "one has to weigh the cost" I wanted you to know that I have -- not saying my thoughts with any force or anything...
nothing to wow about :)
